The Chem 350/130 Parody Project

The Parody Project is an extra credit assignment designed to increase student engagement, encourage learning, advance test scores, and to just have fun in what have become dreaded classes to many undergraduate students. The students were asked to create organic or general chemistry inspired music videos that parody some of their favorite songs. Those videos were graded on incorporation of chemistry content, entertainment value, overall quality, and creativity. This project routinely acieves participation rates greater than 80%. Additionally, in most years the students who participate not only receive extra credit, but also score noticeably higher on their final exam grades. BL would like those reading this description or watching the videos to know that this project was inspired by the work of Professor Neil Garg at UCLA.
